You're lucky he did that as long as he has. I would have gotten fed up of buying groceries and cooking for that many people after a week without any extra pay.

I can't say I've tried much. I'm considering asking the proprietor of the cafe for some of the basics.

Do you like working at her cafe?

That's... complicated, perhaps. I've supported, more vocally than I should have at times, breaking down some of the class barriers and prejudices in my world.

I will leave the second half for Gregor to answer himself. [Because it wont be from him that the Emperor is smitten with the trappings of a common life.]

For me... I suppose it is that it is a craft, all the same. A duty to perform, all the same. These things, both pride and offense of it, they come from different places.

You get all that from making and serving coffee?

It is something to do. There are more suitable things, but I am disinclined to engage in a martial career in a world I care little for and a war I care even less about.

Yeah, I don't blame you. I don't have a whole lot of fondness for being drafted to a whole new universe and expected to play toy soldier.

I can't imagine any who would. Those with the kind of sense of duty are oft already sworn elsewhere.

Yet there are plenty of people running to help. I didn't even consider working with RISE because of their government affiliation.

The war coming here and the means seems to have caused its own sentiments. There is fear and reaction in the face of such immediacy. As well as this government's retaliation measures.

People felt that way before the war was brought to their doorstep. I was here months before and I saw plenty of imPorts jumping to the government's aid.

Besides a blind desire to help and be useful? Not really.

Something, if they were wise, the government would go out of its way to foster. Dangerous in a powerful population and fickle.

Yeah, I don't think the 21st century is known for its wisdom.
